The Biggest Lie Of Primitive Shelter
I backpacked 26 miles across Big Bend National Park without a tent.
Everyone on my trip couldn't believe I did it. And my camping buddies still think I'm crazy for doing so.
However, I love cowboy camping (aka camping without a tent) because it makes setting up and tearing down the camp so much faster.

When I backpacked Big Bend, I took my tarp-poncho just in case it rained. And I wasn't afraid of that because I know several ways to pop up a tarp shelter in a few minutes.
Though the worst case, I could just burrito myself in my tarp and survive the night.
But my preference is to take my trekking pole tent (a River Country Trekker 2.2) because it is quick to pitch yet provides protection from rain and bugs.
Yet is important to understand, the realistic expectation of how long you can stay in your tent or tarp shelter.
